What is Guelph Wellington’s VitalSigns®?
Guelph Wellington’s VitalSigns® is a report card prepared by The Guelph Community Foundation, that measures the vitality of our community, and assigns grades in areas critical to quality of life. It indicates where we are doing well and where improvement is needed.
This report will help guide The Guelph Community Foundation to increase the effectiveness of our grantmaking, better inform our donors of issues and opportunities in our community, and assist us in making connections between individuals and groups to address those issues. We hope this report encourages conversation and learning among community decision-makers and citizens alike.
How we did it ...
VitalSigns® began in 2008, where we published our first report. We collected data from a variety of sources, both local and national. Hundreds of individuals, representing all municipalities and townships in Guelph & Wellington, participated in a grading process by assigning a grade to each indicator statement and issue area.
The indicators addressed in the report card include:
~Gap between rich and poor
~Safety
~Health & Wellness
~Learning
~Housing
~Getting started in our community
~Arts & Culture
~Environment
~Work
~Getting around
~Belonging & Leadership
~Families (2008 report only)
Where did the idea for VitalSigns® come from?
Guelph Wellington’s VitalSigns® is based on Toronto’s VitalSigns®, an indicator report developed by the Toronto Community Foundation, which we and other community foundations see enormous value for donors and the entire community.
Each community chooses its own indicators, but there are some common issues and core indicators which all community foundations report on.
